Our repair, refinishing and restoration service is located in a spacious workshop in Newport Beach on West 16th, just one mile from our retail store. This means fast service for our customers for repairs, refinishing and chair caning.

All repairs are done the old world craftsmanship way:

Furniture is dismantled. Joints are cleaned. Pieces are re-glued with the same type of glue and same manner as when it was first built.

For example, on a piece that is fractured, it would be joined with a mortise and a tenion
It could be a dowel, in most cases. When we hand chisel out a square it is called a blind tenion.

For veneer repairs, we cut out the damaged part, match the same veneer with some period wood from our inventory of recycled pieces from old furniture, then the veneer is replaced . We use recycled wood, because the old veneer was thicker, or different thickness, and you can't buy that anymore.

For refinishing, we mix our own stains and organic shellac flakes to match the original.
Then we wax the furniture as craftsmen of old did. We use the original french polish method.

To see examples of our restoration work, please come in to our store and we will be happy to show you some fine pieces of furniture.
